Fun Friday Pictures

Pictures are below!

In March 2005 Greg Rohrman, Interim Superintendent of Crest Memorial School, asked teacher Peg Ciglinsky if she would like to fly with the idea of bringing Fun Friday back to CMS. (Eleven years ago, Fun Friday was an annual event used to raise money for the Robin Thompson Scholarship Fund.) Peg took the idea to the Wildwood Crest Teachers Association, and they voted to bring back Fun Friday and use it to support Kait Anzelone, a former Crest Memorial student, and Lauren Mulholland, a Wildwood Crest resident. The original Fun Friday committee had Karen Cashioli, Jane McCausland, and Andy Ridgway as members. Mary O'Donnell, Cindy Bada, and Peg Ciglinsky joined in as new members. They tried to meet once a week to plan this event.

Jim Linnington (Chartwells/Wildwood) heard about the fundraising event and joined the CMS crew by donating all the food and beverages. The school staff and board of education joined in quickly!! Sue Haury and Mary Maloy organized the T-Shirts. The Wildwood Crest Board of Education decided to donate the cost of the 288 T-Shirts. The City of Wildwood Crest came through with Adopt-A-Cops and EMT's volunteering their help. Peg Ciglinsky went to the PTC and asked for their help too! Peg also sent letters or visited personally as many businesses and people in the Chamber of Commerce book as possible to ask for their support.

About a month before the night of the big event donations began flooding in! The original goal was to raise $1,000 for each young lady. Within weeks over $2,000 in cash donations had been given.

Christy Montanero brought ribbons and pins from Dr. Renza's office. The committee tried to get the Phillie Phanatic or the Sixers' Hip Hop, but they were booked, so the committee decided to use Cosmo, the CMS Cougar, who was Bruce McCausland, as the official mascot of Fun Friday. Christy Montanero and her husband came up with the idea of changing $1 a picture with Cosmo.

Andy Ridgway and Coach Anthony Samartino organized the relays that night similar to our Play Days. We were originally only going to invite 3rd through 6th grade, but many 7th and 8th graders wanted to do something to help. Dave Raucci came up with the kickball idea for them, and Terry Matthews and Dave Raucci organized that. Karen Cashioli and Jane McCausland helped with all the daily paperwork, and we began separating the donation baskets for the ongoing drawings. Claudia Gentzow and Cindy Bada organized the thank you posters with children from 4 years old through 5th grade making them. Ronnie Sauerbrey made the large thank you banner and the letters for the curtain in the gym. The teachers then signed up for areas they were interested in working that night. Peg Ciglinsky made up the 3rd through 6th grade relay teams with parents. Mary O'Donnell kept information going out in the school newsletter.

Peg Ciglinsky contacted Channel 40 and the local newspapers. Jeff Walden volunteered to D.J. the event. The teachers who were unable to work on the night of the actual event helped by making baked goods. Donna Groon suggested using Kait's website to send her messages while the event was going on, and Greg Rohrman made that happen in the Media Center. In the kitchen, we had take out food starting at 5PM and sold the food donated by Chartwell and Jim Linnington throughout the evening.

The night proved to be a huge success. It will now happen every year as a community event. The island was so generous and eager to help Kaitlin and Lauren, and that made everything easy! It was so much fun...so many parents and kids had a great time supporting two young girls we love so much!!
